Ozone Day

On occasion of World Ozone day celebrated every day on 16th September, the Environmental science department has arranged Guest lecture on 13th September 2019. Guest speaker was Dr. Sanjay Joshi, Vice president of ParyavaranDakshataMandal (NGO, Thane). There were total 20 students of M. Sc. Environmental Science Part I & II present for Guest lecture. Dr Sanjay Joshi started lecture with detailed information about Ozone day and its history. He explained about the ‘Good ozone’ and ‘Bad ozone’. He also explained changes occurred in ozone hole during the course of time. He delivered such an amazing lecture on Ozone depletion and the present condition of ozone with great gratitude.

Educational Visit

One day Educational Visit of M. Sc. Part 1 was organised at Matheran on 3rd December 2019. The purpose of the visit was to carry out two major practicals from syllabus namely the soil profile and hydrological cycle of a water body. Students were accompanied with the resource person Dr. Jyoti Koliyar. Matheran is a hill station in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Matheran plateau lies between 18° 55’N Latitude and 73° 51’E Longitude. It has an average elevation of 800 meters. The total area of the Matheran Eco-Sensitive Zone is 214.73 Sq.Km. in Karjat Tahsil.

Popular Science Lecture

The Department of Environmental Science of SIES (Nerul) college of arts, science and commerce had organized the “Popular Science Lecture” collaboration with Indian Women Scientists Association. The guest speaker was heartily welcomed by Dr.Jyoti G. Koliyar, Coordinator Department of Environmental Science and presented a small token of appreciation to our valuable guests The lecture was on ‘Radioactivity in the Environment’ which was presented by Dr. S.K Sahu Scientific Officer of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Division BARC Mumbai.
